京都で最後の煙管（きせる）職人に当工房へ来ていただいております。煙管作りはもちろん、図案彫刻にも非常に長けた技術をお持ちですので、技術・資料保存と後継者の育成を目的に数年前からお付き合いをはじめました。実はそのI氏すでに、20年も前に自宅工房は閉められました。その際に煙管用の道具の一切を当工房へお譲り頂いた経緯があります。

本来ならばこれら高級京煙管は、喫煙具専門店で扱っていただくと良いのですが、現実的に出回るのほとんどが安価な機械絞りによるもの、もしくは鋳製のものです。高級手延べ煙管は、職人一人が生活できるほどの需要はほとんど無くなりました。

このI氏がおられるうちに、沢山のノウハウを残しておこうと思います。あと、絶えてしまったものの復刻も沢山してゆきたいと思っています。

Since this spring, Mr. I, the only "kiseru"(Oriental pipe) maker left in Kyoto has been working with our studio.
In addition to crafting pipes, he is also extremely skilled in engraving designs. We became acquainted a few
years ago with the purpose of educating the successors about traditional techniques and preservation of
knowledge. Mr. I had in fact closed his home studio 20 years ago; it all started with our studio inheriting all
of his pipe making tools at that time.

Normally it would be best for these high quality pipes to be sold in stores specializing in smoking tools, but
most of the pipes that appear in those shops are low priced, mass-produced items which are machine cast in
the Niigata area. The demand for high quality handmade pipes is no longer high enough for an individual
craftsman to make a living. Even the last pipe stem shop left in the southern part of the city barely carries
any Kyoto made pipes since the previous generation has past away.

I hope that we preserve as much knowledge as possible while Mr. I is here. I also would like to revive all
kinds of things which have faded over time.

そんな嶄、ここ方定咫�鵑良遒�ったものをご?初いたします。輝糾の斌瞳と麿の採かをセットにしてご?麗にされることも謹いのですが、これにはもちろん??？なカタチがあります。焼匂とお焼を?み栽わせられるのも協桑のひとつ。遍脅?�からのご勣李の謹かったものに仝�v勉瞞賠邦々さんの署峠滅と、というご勣李がいくつかありました。
We do our best to answer every customer's requests. In addition to the product itself, we try to deal with the
wrapping and delivery of the product in the same manner.

I will show a few order-made pieces here that particularly left an impression. It is common for our product to
be given as gifts paired with something else, but there are many different formats. A sake container paired with
a bottle of sake is fairly standard. Another gift pairing which had some demand coming from the Tokyo area was
a pairing with the Konpeito candy by "Ryokujuan-Shimizu."



冱わずと岑れた、囮脂撰の哈竃麗、お廝いの瞳に硬栖より聞われることの謹いボンボニエ?ル。暴慌は、?原きの?徨匂のことを〆ヤンポ〇とも柵んでいます。蒙に司片のご脂撰には之かせない瞳でもあります。これにならって、ハレの囮?麗にされる圭が謹いようです。
It is widely known that since long ago, a bonboni┬re has often been used as a present given to guests at a
wedding ceremony. We also call these candy containers with lids "Yanpo". It is essential at a wedding
ceremony within the Imperial household. Perhaps this is why many people use it for gifts in formal occasions.



とくにこの署峠滅に?しては、仝?勉瞞々さんのものを、とのご勣李が掲械に謹ございました。?gはお兆念は參念より贋じ貧げながら、書まで?g?に笥にしたことはありませんでした。
In terms of the Konpeito candy, there was an especially high demand for specifically the one from "Ryokujuan."
Though I had heard of the name before, I never had the chance to try it.

Their store is only about 10 minutes away from us by bike, so there are no difficulties in terms of going out to
buy stock. However, there were a few occasions where we went to buy a flavor requested by the customer, and they
were completely sold out of it.

It is contained in a fine silver bonboni┬re (yanpo), and then put into a box. In the case of a wedding related
gift for guests, we add a gold color mizuhiki (ceremonial paper strings).
Actual container (wooden box included): 29,400 Yen for a 75mm diameter size. We create ones starting from 60mm
in diameter. We have various sizes available.
In terms of the product contained inside, we would like to consult this with you separately. Konpeito is 525 Yen

　古くから生活に溶け込んできた工芸品の中にも、時代の移り変わり、生活様式の変化によって、身の回りから消え去ってしまったものがあります。その代表的なものに、「火鉢」が挙げられます。

「暖をとるという用」を為すだけなら、電気、ガス、石油ストーブで十分事足りますし、床暖房やオイルヒーターなど、この近年になって新しい暖房器具も出てまいり、「火鉢」はその役目を終えました。しかし、この「火鉢」は単に用を為すだけでなく、すぐれたデザイン、高い技術を用いて作られた美術工芸品でもありました。

残念なことに、現代生活の中では活躍の場がほとんどありません。機密性の高い現代建築内では、使用が危ないくらいです。よって今「火鉢」はほとんど作られていないばかりか、骨董・古道具店でも二束三文で売買されている状態です。当工房の近くにある骨董店でも、青銅素地に色鮮やかな金銀象嵌・繊細な彫りが施された、当時今のお金に換算すればクルマが一台買える位のお金を掛けて作られたと思われる上等の火鉢が、地金代にもならぬくらいの低い価格で売られていました。

さてこの「火鉢」、今は置物くらいにしかならない世から忘れ去られた存在。これに命を吹き込んでやります。壊れて使い物にならなくなったモノを修理するのと同じように、使いようの無いものを、今の我々が使えるようにしてやります。



で、１ヶ月をかけて生まれ変わりました。ワインクーラーです。

もともと火鉢は、非常に高い断熱性・保温性をもつ構造をしています。中に氷水を詰めても長く冷たく保てるほか、結露した水で周りを汚すこともありません。和の空間に合うデザインのワインクーラーはなかなかありませんが、これは周囲ともしっくり調和することでしょう。



今回は銅製のオトシの内側にぴったりと填まる、錫を用いた「槽」を新に作りました。この方法のほか、もともと付いている銅のオトシの状態によっては、漆をかけ防水し、金・銀箔を押すことも出来ます。錫オトシ（丸モノ）37,800円〜　

Within the industrial arts and crafts which have merged into daily life since a long time ago, there are some
things that have disappeared form our surroundings due to transitions in the times and way of living. A
representative of this is the "hibachi"(charcoal brazier).

If the purpose is just "to warm oneself," there are electric, gas, or oil stoves, and nowadays there are even
more new heating equipments such as floor heating systems or oil heaters; the hibachi's function is no longer
needed. However, not only did this hibachi have a function, it was an excellently designed piece of artwork
made with high skill.

Unfortunately, there is little chance for it to play an active part in our current lifestyle. It is almost
dangerous to use it in modern buildings which tend to be more airtight. Therefore hibachi is not only rarely made
anymore, but is sold extremely cheaply at antique or secondhand stores. Even at an antique shop near our studio,
a bronze hibachi with gold and silver inlay and detailed engravings that probably cost as much as one car to
make it, was being sold for a price that almost did not even amount to the material cost.


The existence of the "hibachi" has been forgotten to the point where it only serves as an ornament in the house.
I will give life to this object again. Just like fixing something that is broken, I will make this useless
object useful to our current lifestyle.

After working on it for one month, it was reborn as a wine cooler.

The hibachi's construction is such that it naturally has excellent insulation and heat-retention. If we put ice
water inside it will keep cool for a long period of time, and there is no worry about the condensed water
staining the surroundings. It is difficult to find a wine cooler in a design that works with a Japanese room,
but I believe that this would harmonize with its surroundings perfectly.


We created a new pewter "tank" that would exactly fit into the hibachi's copper interior. In addition to this
technique, depending on the condition of the original inner container, it may be possible to waterproof it with
lacquer and apply gold or silver leafing on top.

　銀製「丑」置物、各種完成いたしました。
牡牛・牝牛を立ち姿、座った姿と、3種類。

こちらは、仔牛が3種類。大人の牛よりも２周りほど小ぶりです。

手のひらとくらべると、ちょこんとほんとに小さいのがわかります。

　このところ工房はかなり立て込んでいて、年末年始のお休み返上で製作に取り組んでいます。ご予約いただいているお客様おかれましては、お待たせし大変申し訳ございません。

この約２ヶ月に渡って、ほぼかかりっきりになっている仕事があります。オープン間近となった、東山区の高級都市リゾートホテル「長楽館」様のお風呂場の金具類です。その製作風景を一部ご紹介いたします。

まず最初の写真は、お風呂場にてシャンプーとリンスのボトルを置いておくための棚です。幅約２０センチほど、無垢の錫合金にて製作しています。金槌で叩いて身を締め、キラキラと輝く美しい光沢のある肌作りをしています。

大まかな形の成形には、鑢（やすり）類を用いて削りだします。そのままだとざらざらと荒れているので、鋭利な刃物を用いて一皮剥き、表面を研ぎあげます。


この写真は、石鹸を置いておく台。ソープディッシュとも呼ばれます。三次曲面を描いているため、金床（通称：鳥口もしくは鳥打ち）にあてがい外側から打ち延べます。


金床の曲面と器物の曲面がいい塩梅に噛み合うと、表面が滑らかで美しい肌が生まれます。叩く外側よりも、あてがわれる内側の肌作りの方が格段に困難です。


このままでも十分に美しい肌ですが、さらに研磨機を用いて研ぎあげます。設置場所が湿気の多いところですので、キズ一つ無い肌を作っておきますと耐食性がさらに高まります。

この写真のほか、バスローブを一時かけておくためのフックや、コップを設置しておくためのスタンドなども製作しています。いずれも既存のものではなく、この高級ホテルのためだけに一からデザインした創作の品々です。浴室のデザインに調和するよう、モダーンかつ端正で、素材の持ち味を最大限に活かしたデザインにしました。

　蝉の鳴き声も聞こえなくなり、夏の終わり、秋の訪れを感じる季節となります。当工房では、秋の虫たちの小物を製作しています。卓上、床の間を彩る置物です。

写真は蟋蟀（コオロギ）の雄と雌。いずれも銀製で、自然とついてくるイブシをお楽しみいただけます。





こちらは鈴虫（スズムシ）、銀製。羽を広げ音を奏でる雄と、たたずむ雌がございます。このほか、羽を閉じた状態の雄もいます。

　皇室の慶事引き出物で一躍有名になりました、ボンボニエール（ボンボン入れ小箱）をご紹介します。

出産の御祝、結婚式に出る飴菓子を、このボンボン入れを用いて持ち帰るのがそもそもの慣わし。これが日本に入ってくると、贈答記念品・引出物を送る習慣と結びつき、慶事引出物として定着しました。皇室では主に、金平糖をいれるそう。皇室ボンボニエール自体は、主に造幣局で作られています。

さて、

皇室のボンボニエールが有名になる以前から、ここ京都では「やんぽ」と称しボンボニエール文化が定着しています。南座ほか京極界隈の芸能文化と密接な関わりがあるようです。観劇に参る際、この携帯菓子器「やんぽ」に飴を入れて出かけたそうです。



当工房では、ありきたりの金平糖では物足りないとおっしゃるお客様のために、さまざまな慶事干菓子を詰めてお納めしています。上の写真は、「御池煎餅」で有名な亀屋良永様であつらえていただいたもの。菓名「あけぼの」に寿の焼印をわざわざ押していただきました。



同じく亀屋さん。柔らかい干菓子のひとつ、「梅にく」。甘酸っぱさと、口の中で溶ける柔らかさが当店のお客様にも好まれています。薄桃色が、銀の光沢とよく合います。

慶事引き出物には、金銀水引・熨斗をご用意いたしております。

古代中国で考案され日本に伝わった十二支の数え方、動物が割り当てられているのは皆さんご存知の通り。来年は「亥」の年にあたります。

近世までと比べると、今の生活においてはほとんど馴染みが無く「・・・年生まれ」と言い方したり、年賀状の切手に図案化されているのを目にしたりするくらいでしょうか。とはいいつつも、当店で制作する「干支（えと）の置物」は今だ根強い人気があります。


銀製、猪の一家。精密な表現に長ける「蝋型鋳造技法」によって製作されています。原型製作から鋳造、仕上げまで、非常に手間のかかる技法ではございますが、金属ならではの質感が現せるので動物をモチーフとした置物には適しています。

お父さん猪。力強い姿勢を保っています。

こちらは、お母さん猪。お父さん猪の一回り小ぶりです。お母さんといえども、猪らしく力強い印象です。

母猪の大きさの目安に、手のひらに載せてやるとこんな感じ。手に持っても、ずしりと重みがあります。


そして子どもたち。こちらは三種製作いたしました。



姿勢がそれぞれ違い、下向き・上向き・前向きがございます。
たて約26ミリ、幅約11ミリ、高さ約15〜18ミリメートル
手のひらに載せると判りますが、ちっちゃく可愛いおおきさ。

干支「亥」置物　うりぼう

■上のものとはまったく別のものも製作しています。こちらは「白銅」製。同じ猪からモチーフを得ていますが、デフォルメされ愛らしい表情に仕上げています。
注）「白銅」=銅を主体に、約15％のニッケルを加えた銅合金

三種を製作、いずれも背中の斑点が残る可愛い「うり坊」。
左から「走」「立」「座」と名づけました。

それほど大きくはありませんが、無垢の白銅ですのでずっしりとした重みはあります。
